STRONG & KIND TOTE | SUPPORTING SYDNEY WOMEN'S FUND

Sydney Women’s Fund (SWF) is an incredible community of women from many industries supporting disadvantaged women in Sydney.

Ginger & Smart has partnered with SWF for many years to help transform one of their place based social enterprise programs in Fairfield: The Women's Friendship Sewing Circle. 

The program is for migrant and refugee women in Fairfield, mainly of Syrian and Iraqi background and brings women together to share stories and skills, across generations and to learn about working life in Australia.

For 2020 Ginger & Smart designed a ‘Strong & Kind’ tote bag to raise funds for SWF and to support the continuation of the Sewing Circle. The Ginger & Smart x SWF tote bag features an original artwork created exclusively to celebrate the strong spirit of women supporting women and the great change that can happen when we bring our hearts and minds together. The collaboration with Ginger & Smart makes the program a wage paying social enterprise as a group of women managed by retail store and not for profit The Social Outfit in Newtown, are being paid to produce the tote bag.

“Giving back to those less fortunate we believe is a social responsibility of business. The fashion industry has given us both so many opportunities and we feel it is important to mentor and assist where we can. These fantastic women come together after unbelievable personal hardships and start to make friends and talk and bond over a sewing circle. It’s a reminder of the power of a new start.” says Genevieve and Alexandra Smart. 

Ethically made by refugee and migrant women at The Social Outfit, the Sydney Women’s Fund ‘Strong & Kind’ Tote bag is designed exclusively for Sydney Women’s Fund by Ginger/Smart.

All proceeds from the ‘Strong & Kind’ Tote sales, will be reinvested to transform the lives of women and girls in need in Sydney.
